I installed switchable smart glass film in my office (from Sumona Automation) – here’s my honest experience

So I recently upgraded part of my office using something called <a href="https://sumonapdlcfilm.in/swit....chable-films/\" smart glass film</a>, and I figured I’d share my experience because I hadn’t seen many detailed posts about it before trying it myself.

Basically, this film goes on your existing glass and lets you switch it from clear → frosted instantly. No curtains, no blinds. Just a switch.

I went with a brand called Sumona Automation, mainly because they handle installation as well, and I didn’t want to mess up something this technical.

What it actually feels like to use

The first time you switch it on/off is honestly pretty satisfying.

Power ON → glass becomes completely transparent
Power OFF → turns milky/frosted (full privacy)

It happens almost instantly. No lag, no weird transitions.

Meeting room partition

Before this, we had blinds, which were always either half-broken or awkward to use during meetings.

Biggest advantages I noticed

1. Instant privacy (without killing natural light)
This is probably the biggest win. Even in frosted mode, light still comes through, so the room doesn’t feel closed off.

2. Cleaner, modern look
Removing curtains/blinds made the space look way more minimal and “premium.” Clients actually noticed this.

3. Works with existing glass
Didn’t have to replace anything. They just applied the film on top of the glass panels.

4. Heat & glare reduction
Not something I expected, but it actually reduced harsh sunlight during the afternoon.

5. Cool bonus: projection screen
When it’s frosted, you can literally use it as a screen for presentations. This turned out super useful in meetings.

Things you should know before installing

Not everything is perfect, so here are a few practical points:

It needs electricity to stay transparent
Initial cost is higher than blinds (but feels more like a one-time upgrade)

Honestly, I thought this would be one of those “looks cool but not practical” upgrades—but it turned out to be the opposite.
